Tab Bench lets you organize and search your tabs, put them to sleep, or close the tabs you select. AI processing happens on your device. The extension has no feature that sends tab information to the operator or an external AI service. It does not provide cloud storage or use analytics.

About this website

This website is hosted on Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare may process connection information, such as your IP address, to deliver pages and protect the service. The Tab Bench extension does not send your tab list or information used for grouping to this website. For Cloudflare's handling of information, see its Privacy Policy.

Information the extension reads

The extension reads titles, URLs and IDs of normal web tabs, their window and group associations, states such as pinned tabs, audio playback and loading, and tab usage times. This information is used to display and search tabs, suggest groups, identify sleep candidates and close tabs you select.

It does not read page bodies or form contents. Incognito tabs are excluded.

Normal storage behavior

Chrome's local extension storage keeps your preferences for preserving existing groups, reviewing suggestions, the idle-time threshold, the frequent-use threshold, and whether you have acknowledged Chrome's sync settings. The extension does not use extension sync storage.

The following information is held in Chrome's in-memory storage area, storage.session:

Tab IDs and full URLs, window associations, usage times, activation records and protection settings
Whether automatic sleep is enabled and the site names you allow it to operate on
The most recent sleep operation's time, counts and result

Full URLs may include credentials, query strings and fragments, including the parts after “?” and “#”. Titles and URLs may contain personal or work information. When updated, activation records are limited to the past 24 hours and at most 100 entries per tab. Closing a tab removes its usage records and protection setting.

Session information is cleared when Chrome restarts or the extension is reloaded, updated or disabled. Automatic sleep then returns to off, and allowed sites and protected tabs must be set again. Closing a browser window may leave Chrome running in the background.

This version cannot create new saved-tab lists. Closing selected tabs does not save a list for later restoration.

Saved lists from an earlier version

If you update from an earlier version, existing saved list names, titles and full URLs remain on your device as an exception. They stay in Chrome's local extension storage without extension-level encryption until you delete them through the migration screen.

The migration screen lets you reopen tabs from an old list or delete the list. Reopening tabs does not delete the stored list; delete it when it is no longer needed. Deleting a list does not close open tabs.

Old usage records and automatic-sleep site settings are moved to session storage and removed from their previous storage location. Migration does not turn automatic sleep on. If writing to the destination fails, migration stops without deleting the original data.

Information passed to AI

When you create or review group suggestions, or use AI search, the extension passes tab titles, parts of URLs and temporary tab reference numbers to Chrome’s built-in Gemini Nano model. AI search also passes your search terms. Search terms and group suggestions are not saved persistently.

Credentials, query strings and fragments are removed from URLs before passing them to AI. The remaining URLs and titles may still contain personal or work information. Processing happens on your device. If the built-in AI is unavailable, the extension does not switch to an external AI service.

Network connections and Chrome sync

Chrome itself may connect to the internet to download or update its model. AI availability depends on your device and your organization's browser policies.

Chrome's native tab groups can sync names and URLs according to Chrome's settings. Before using grouping, check that tab and tab-group sync are turned off. The extension cannot check or change these settings.

Returning to sleeping tabs or reopening tabs from an old saved list makes normal page-loading requests to their websites. Chrome's own browsing history, recently closed tabs and sync are managed separately under Chrome's settings.

Sleeping and closing tabs

Putting a tab to sleep releases the page from memory while keeping the tab open. The page reloads when you return to it. Closing selected tabs requires confirmation first. Neither operation saves unsaved input or edits.

The extension cannot detect unsaved input. Save your work or protect tabs you are editing. Automatic sleep is off by default and, when enabled, only operates on sites you specify.

Use and deletion of information

Tab information read by the extension is used only for the tab-management features described here, in accordance with the Limited Use requirements of the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy. It is not sold or used for advertising, credit assessment or unrelated purposes. The extension does not provide tab information to third parties.

You can change preferences in Settings and delete old saved lists through the migration screen. Uninstalling the extension deletes its stored data. Clearing normal browsing history does not delete the extension's stored data.
